Update on Ryan Hiserote

For those students who have asked about our own Laura Hiserote and her son Ryan, you can see the recent status here http://caringbridge.org/visit/ryanhiserote They are currently back in Memphis. Read Laura’s posts and keep her, Ryan and the Hiserote family in your thoughts and prayers. Hopefully things go well and this is Ryan’s last trip to Memphis.

You read her posts and you know instantly why the many St. Jude runners hit the road in the heat of each summer. For me, with my Morton’s Neuroma flaring up a little worse than it did last year at this time it’s been awfully tempting to sleep in a bit instead of getting up and hitting the muggy road. An injection may be in my future before August 2nd but so far I have no trouble getting up early, lacing up my shoes and logging miles, motivated by Ryan and all of the other amazing St. Jude kids and families.

And if you haven’t done so, donate to the St. Jude Runs today.

For those that are waivering in their decision to donate to Tom's run or St. Jude in general I would like to take a moment to tell you that EVERY PENNY is worth it. I saw firsthand last year how St. Jude helps. My cousin was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year around this time and spent some time at St. Jude in Memphis. She has just passed her one year anniversary with flying colors. The tumor is not growing and is even shrinking. In fact, she was recently featured in a TV news spot on how she overcame her tumor and is now playing softball. Her mom is now participating in the Washington to Peoria run because she says that she owes her daughter's life to St. Jude. Tom did me a favor and dedicated part of his run to my cousin last year. He endured a lot so that she would not have to suffer. He is doing the same for Ryan and I would encourage all of you to support him and St. Jude. As I learned last year, you never know how close to home this can hit and it is comforting to know that St. Jude (and the runners) are out there fighting to bring an end to this horrible disease in children.
